They don’t understand that Republicans only want power

News Analysis

The late House Speaker Tip O’Neill most famously observed that all politics is local, but he surely didn’t foresee how local politics would play out across America today.

At least 14 states run by Trumpians (aka Republicans) have enacted laws this year with far-reaching restrictions on access to election polls. All flow from baseless claims of fraud in the 2020 presidential election begun by the loser, Donald Trump, the only U.S. president who lied in office so much that he was regularly called a liar, even by the news media.

Look for an embittered President Trump to resign a few days early so that an Acting President Mike Pence can pardon him of any federal crimes he might be prosecuted for.

That has to be Trump’s fallback plan in the likely event that his increasingly brazen attempts to steal the 2020 election fail. Republican state legislators would be fools to let Trump strong-arm them into defying their state’s voters and choosing electors who would vote for Trump over Democrat Joe Biden when the Electoral College meets to finalize the Nov. 3 presidential election next…

Campaign reveals Trump’s hypocrisy

By STEVEN A COHEN

News Analysis

President Trump’s blatant hypocrisy must be a result of his narcissistic personality disorder. I can’t think of any other explanation for his criticism of former Vice President Joe Biden for allegedly using his position to enrich his family.

Trump and his children have turned the presidency into a private enterprise, which has netted them many millions of dollars, according to published reports. He also accuses Biden of wanting to stack the Supreme Court by adding justices to dilute the power of the three right wingers that he nominated. He and Sen. Mitch McConnell, R-Ky, have pushed…

Massachusetts and the nation could use another Kennedy in the Senate – one who will carry on a tradition that’s in stark contrast to the Kennedy currently serving there.

U.S. Rep. Joseph P. Kennedy III, D.-Mass., ruffled feathers at home by declaring for the Senate seat held by Democratic Sen. Edward Markey. Kennedy will turn 40 in October. Markey, 74, represented Massachusetts’s 7th Congressional District from 1976 to 2013, when he won a special election to the Senate. He began his political career in the Massachusetts House in 1973.

Kennedy would have immediate clout…

Considering its response to the coronavirus pandemic, there doesn’t seem any purpose to Donald J. Trump’s administration, other than to enrich him and to stroke his enormous ego. His is an imperial presidency, which America has no use for.

Trump likes to characterize himself as a wartime president, yet he accepts no responsibility for lost battles in the war against the pandemic. He’s clearly developed a taste for power, though, which explains his angry outbursts over developments that threaten his reelection in November. Trump often calls news conferences, and then he explodes over questions…

President Trump’s brazen efforts to make it appear that he responded forcefully to the COVID-19 pandemic are nothing more than public relations tactics.

The latest scheme, according to news reports, is a plan to have his name appear on about 76 million checks being sent by the IRS to people who are not having their government stimulus checks direct deposited into their bank accounts. The Washington Post reported this the same evening that Trump opened his nightly self- congratulatory, rambling, prime-time “news” briefing about all he allegedly has done to protect the public with…

Americans shouldn’t have to put up with a president’s inept and self-serving response to the coronavirus, which experts suggest is costing thousands of lives unnecessarily. Nor should they have to accept a cynical Senate leader who refuses to bring hundreds of House-passed bills to the floor for a vote and turned the president’s impeachment trial into a political charade.

Not only should the Constitution be changed to get rid of the Electoral College, which allowed Donald J. Trump and George W. Bush — arguably the two worst president in the nation’s history — to…

“I couldn’t make this up,” is what some people say about the incompetence, corruption and cynicism of Donald J. Trump and his administration in Washington. But George Orwell was able to, in his 1945 novella, “Animal Farm.” This is a story about a rebellion by animals at a farm in England, based on the Stalinist regime in Russia. Stalin was responsible for more than 14 million deaths, about the same number as Hitler.

The book’s theme applies to authoritarian regimes everywhere, and many characters easily match up with people in Washington today — especially…

New York City and its suburbs reported about 5 percent of global coronavirus cases March 23, making the region an epicenter of the pandemic. More than 20,000 people in the state tested positive for the virus.

TRUMP SUBSTITUTES ‘NEWS’ BRIEFINGS FOR VIRTUAL RALLIES; HE USES MEDIA AS PROPS

Why do CNN, MSNBC and other broadcast media permit President Trump to use their airwaves for virtual rallies? That’s what Trump has turned his daily “news” briefings on the Coronavirus pandemic into. …

Coronavirus may enable him to put off election

News Analysis

By Steven A Cohen

It appears that even President Trump now recognizes the economy won’t be easing him into a second term. That’s why, after dragging his feet for so long, he has come to embrace trillion-dollar plans to keep the country afloat while the Coronavirus sweeps across the landscape. He has been behind the curve, denying reality every step of the way, and he has proved himself incapable of providing the leadership that the world expects of the American president.

I may be opening myself up to a charge…
